This piece is from my recent Geode Series, which was inspired by the crystals and mineral specimens my husband (a jewelry designer) and I collect. To create 'geodes' which appear to float on the canvas, I developed a time-intensive layering process of mixing mediums with iridescent and metallic paints. The result is a crystal-like texture that reflects flashes of light, even changes in color.
ldness. Translucent and iridescent but with an almost inexplicable solidity and depth, the geometric yet random patterns are a study in contrasts. Calling upon her preferred palette of neutrals and pastels, Jill blurs the lines between abstraction and realism, effervescence and solidity. Where some see stones, others see bubbles.
